Google Launches New Privacy and Security Hub

Google has announced the launch of two large improvements to their privacy and security tools. These include a new hub that allows you to manage all your Google settings called ‘My Account’ and new site to answer any of your Google related privacy and security questions.

At Google I/O they announced that they will be giving people the chance to take more control over the information they provide and now these two new sites aim to achieve just this. The first of these sites My Account allows you to:

Take privacy and Security checkups, which are simple guides showing you the important settings related to your account.
Alter your Ads settings, allowing you to control the ads you see based on your search history.
Change the apps and sites that are connected to your account
Take the Privacy Checkup and Security Checkup, our simple, step-by-step guides through your most important privacy and security settings.
View the information that can be used by Google services like Search, Maps and YouTube.

The second of these services is inspired by feedback from users regarding privacy and security concerns. This website answers many questions users had about Google’s data collection.

These two new services are definitely a step in the right direction and if you have a google account they are most certainly worth a look. They will be updated as new services are launched and can be found at:

Note 4 To Recieve Android 5.1.1 Towards The End Of July

Sammobile is reporting that, according to their sources, Samsung is planning to release the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update to the Galaxy Note 4 by the end of July. This news comes just days after Google announced that the final release of Android M is due during Q3 of this year.

Windows 10 To Be Available On July 29

Microsoft’s Executive VP of Operating Systems, Terry Myerson, announced in a blog post that the next release of Windows will be available on 29th July 2015.

The initial release for Windows 10 will be limited to laptops and desktops, with the OS making its way onto tablets and smartphones later at an unannounced date. Microsoft also has not given any information on the pricing, but rumors are floating around that point to a pricing of $150 for Windows 10 Professional Edition and $110 for Windows 10 Home edition. The OS will also be available as a free upgrade to existing Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 SP1 users.

Windows 10 will see the return of the classic and beloved Start Menu which was killed off back in Windows 8. Along with this, Windows 10 also boasts of deep integration with Cortana along with new apps for Photos, Videos, Music, Maps, People, Mail and Calendar. Windows 10 also features Microsoft’s latest browser, Microsoft Edge.

Another notable feature is Windows Continuum, which would allow smooth transitions for 2-in-1 tablet-laptop devices to switch between form factors. With Continuum, new Windows-based phones will be able to act as the CPU for a desktop like experience by attaching a monitor, mouse and physical keyboard. While this would in no way compete with the prowess of desktops, having an option is always good.

To upgrade to Windows 10 on launch day, Microsoft recommends users to reserve a copy for themselves. More information on this simple procedure can be found at the Windows 10 upgrade page.

Asus Announces The New Zenwatch 2

At their Computex event, Asus took the wraps off the second generation of its smart wearable, the Asus Zenwatch 2.

The Zenwatch 2 will be available in two different sizes, 41mm width (x49mm) and 37mm width (x45mm) with strap sizes of 22mm and 18mm respectively. Both the watches sport an AMOLED display, with a 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top for protection. As for the internals, the watches have a Qualcomm processor, but no more information has been provided in their press release. They will also run on the latest stable release of Android Wear.

The Zenwatch 2 also comes with a magnetic charger for easier attachment to the watch along with improved recharge rate. Battery capacity of the smartwatches was not mentioned. Both the watches do bear IP67 certification for dust and water resistance. Interestingly, the Zenwatch 2 also has a metal crown on the side to echo traditional watch styling and also provide a “convenient” new way to interact with the smartwatch, much like the iWatch. Along with usual functions of a smartwatch, the Zenwatch 2 will also have a Watch Face Land app where users can create their own custom watch faces for a more personalized experience.

For the looks, the Asus Zenwatch 2 is definitely hoping to impress. Both the watches will be available in 3 different colors for the stainless steel case: Silver, Gunmetal Gray and Rose Gold. For the straps, there are 3 materials to choose from, and depending on the material, there are different colors. For the Rubber based straps, the colors available would be Blue, Orange, Red and Taupe. For the Leather based straps, the colors available will be Khaki, Brown, Gray, Blue and Orange. The Stainless Steel Link Bands will come matching with the case color, i.e. in Silver, Gunmetal Gray and Rose Gold. To also appease the luxury end of the consumer spectrum, there will also be a Swarovski Leather strap which shall bear an embossed diamond pattern and Swarovski Crystals.

The Asus Zenwatch 2 looks like a solid offering so far, at least on paper. As the competition heats up with more manufacturers dipping their toes in the smartwatch segment, the pricing and availability of the watch would play an increased role in its success. However, pricing and availability of the Zenwatch 2 is not known at this stage.

HTC M9 Receiving Android M & More – XDA TV

The HTC One M9 has been slated to receive Android M! That and much more news is covered by Jordan when he reviews all the important stories from this weekend.
